Oak Opening Workshop
02/11/12
Southern
Unit Kettle Moraine State Forest
Headquarters
S91 W39091 Highway 59
Eagle, WI 53119
(262) 594-6200
You don’t need to travel to exotic places to see rare ecosystems. Right here in the Southern Kettle Moraine Region we have one of the rarest natural communities on the globe. The Bur Oak Openings of the Southern Kettle Moraine were listed as a globally significant resource by the Wisconsin Wildlife Action Plan. Come learn what makes Oak Openings unique and how to manage, protect and restore this endangered ecosystem.
You will learn about resources available to help you plan and conduct ecological restoration on your oak woodlands. Representatives from Wisconsin DNR, local land trust staff, con-tractors, and landowners who have successfully restored their property will be available to answer your questions and present useful information about prescribed burning and other woodland management techniques.
This workshop is geared towards landowners, natural area enthusiasts, educators and master gardeners. Come prepared for the weather so you can participate in the woodland hike where significant features of oak ecosystems will be pointed out.
Registration Fee: $10 - Lunch is included!

Early Prairie Burn
01/10/12
Early January’s weather
gave us a great opportunity for an early burn.
